Solar Air Conditioner Heat Pump



This is the 4th generation solar air conditioner we’ve all been waiting for – designed for low cost, easy installation and a fast payback. This unique solar air conditioning technology requires no batteries, no inverter, no controller – just plug in the solar panels and start saving up to more than 90% on daytime cooling or heating costs.

During the day it runs primarily on solar power and only uses small amounts of power from the utility company as needed. Hybrid operation eliminates the need for batteries and allows 24 hours per day use of the system. The system primarily uses solar power, and mixes it with normal AC power.

For home or office use, this system will cool an area for pennies with 90% or more of the energy coming from sunlight. In addition to cooling, the ACDC12b solar heat pump will provide solar powered heating, operating all the way down to an outside ambient temperature of 5F. ACDC12b solar air conditioners need no batteries, and only need two or three PV panels to deliver a huge savings. During the day, when air conditioning is needed the most, you can operate this unit with very little draw on your utility meter. At night, you continue to save due to the >SEER 21 rating on this unit. The mini-split air conditioner design allows you to put solar cooling into the area where it’s needed the most and avoid the security issues of an unsightly and noisy window unit. If your location needs heat during the winter, take a full 1-ton of the daytime heating load off of your main heating system and get a head start on evening heating requirements.  And because it’s a ductless system, it allows 100% of your heating or cooling to be delivered to where it’s needed without the loss that occurs in a ducted system. Solar Air Conditioning Cooling & Heating Augmentation
Augmenting a space heating or cooling system with solar makes perfect sense. In addition to heating or cooling a small area, it allows you to add capacity to an existing system, or reduce the load on an existing system, either or both of which can save you money and add comfort. Solar augmentation also allows offsetting of higher daytime electricity rates and reduces the amount of early evening catch-up required by the normal system. The ACDC12b hybrid solar air conditioner allows you to add comfort without adding cost, and can sharply cut your daytime heating and cooling bills.


The ACDC12b installs just like a normal minisplit air conditioner, then you connect the solar panels using industry-standard MC4 connectors. You can use 1, 2 or 3 normal solar panels (but not 12v “battery charger” panels) of 230w-300w each for a total of up to 900w. You can order the panels, etc. from us or purchase them locally, note the panels should be minimum 30v PV panels (30-39v), please review the specifications. The ACDC12b uses R410a, an ozone-friendly refrigerant, so it is legal for the customer to self-install however we recommend hiring a professional HVAC installer. If self-installing you will need a vacuum pump to commission the unit.

Anti-Corrosion For Long Life
Designed to last a long time even in coastal and/or island areas where salty mist, saline fog, or salt spray may come in contact with critical air conditioner components, the ACDC12B uses SeaSpray Anti-Corrosion Technology to protect the electronic and mechanical components from corrosion.

On pure AC power when no free solar energy is used, official AHRI SEER is >21. SEER is “Seasonal EER” and is a way of describing an “average EER” and considers that the system operates under part-load conditions a majority of the time. EER is equal to full-load cooling output in BTUs divided by energy input in watts. Officially, using solar does not change the SEER or the EER. However, if you consider energy input only on the basis of paid energy and don’t consider the free solar energy as part of the input, using free energy from 3x 300w solar panels operating at full capacity would result in an EER of approximately 43. Because a system operates at part-load conditions a majority of the time, SEER ratings are typically much higher than EER ratings. If you tested and calculated a SEER value based only on the paid-energy, the numbers would be extremely high. Currently there is no official test standard for testing SEER or EER based on whether or not the energy is paid for.
